In domestic adoption, there are three different type of the adoption; closed, open, and semi-open. The open adoption allows adoptive family and birth parents to exchange information, pictures and letters through the years. The closed adoption only allows the medical and historical information of the biological parents to adoptive family. The semi-open adoption allows adoptive family and birth parents to exchange information but never meet or talk before birth. After birth, they has no more contact. The process of domestic adoption usually takes up to two years.
A foster care adoption is a type of domestic adoption. When the kids cannot be safely returned home to their parents, they are placed in the the public care. Some of them are placed with other family members or non-related adults that they have a significant attachment. Foster families may also choose to adopt the kids in their care once they are free for adoption.
When you want a child from different country, it is an international adoption. The international adoption is the most complicated one. You have to accept the restriction of your state and the child's state law. Also, you have to obtain an immigration visa for the child before he/she entering the US. The process of the adoption might take from 6 months to several years due to the child's age and health.
Learn the adoption types and process before you get into it. Also, think hard before you make a dicision. Can you give them all the love and care? Are you really ready? Although the adoption seems to be challenging, it is worth doing it.
